Everything you kill generates orbs, and these orbs are autocollected, contributing to your five attributes – strength, explosives, agility, driving and firearms.
Crackdown 3 multiplayer coop upgrade#
While most games allow players to upgrade their abilities, Crackdown kind of does that for you depending on how you go about doing things. This can create some really tense and punishing encounters – even on the Normal difficulty – but thankfully, Crackdown 3 never feels too cheap or unfair because of its excellent auto-save system, which means death will not wipe out a few hours of progress. You’ll face aerial as well as ground threats and thanks to your thruster packs, you are granted complete mobility across the battlefield.

Juggling all these abilities while hundreds of varied enemies descend upon you can be frantic and exciting. Unlike regular superhero protagonists, your character can leap entire buildings, throw cars around and punch bad guys into another dimension. And that’s when Crackdown 3 is at its frantic best. As you take out more mini bosses, the game gets tougher and starts throwing a whole lot of grunts at you. After that, its rinse and repeat till you hit the end boss. None of these bosses need to be tackled in a particular order, so even if you go about causing enough chaos, you’ll eventually draw someone out. Destroy enough of his or her property and you’ll draw them out. To do so, you have to take out nine lieutenants (mini bosses), each of whom controls a certain part of the city. You are a genetically modified supercop who must liberate the fictional city of New Providence from the clutches of an evil conglomerate called Terra Nova. None of the game’s content is gated, which means you could head into the tougher areas right away – but you’ll obviously die over and over again. Yet, there’s something about Crackdown 3 that’s absurdly enjoyable in a simple, but cathartic way.Ĭrackdown 3, like its predecessors, is an-open world game that’s literally open from the get-go. Four-player coop has been scaled to two-player coop at launch, multiplayer won’t be available till a later date, and the citywide destruction promised courtesy of “the power of the cloud” remains absent. After being stuck in development hell for half a decade, Crackdown 3 is definitely not the earth-shattering experience Microsoft had promised. Playing Crackdown 3 feels like time-travelling back to 2007, when Crackdown made its debut on Xbox 360.
